Surgical Treatments For Acne Scars


One of the most common after consequences of acne is acne scars. These scars result as the reaction of the body’s immune system to fight redness related to acne. Acne scars can be primarily categorized into types– depress scars eg. [ice pick scars ] and the ones where in the skin tissue is raised like keloids.

While scars can be annoying, the good part is that you can have many surgical treatments that will help you get shot of acne scars. These are some options.

Dermabrasion: This procedure involves the removal of the skin surface thru erosion. The abrasion is performed with the aid of a wire brush which spins at high speeds. This is an agonizing method and often requires the utilization of anesthesia. Your skin may become red and raw after dermabrasion and may take several months to heal completely. The method is helpful only if your scars are raised above the surrounding skin.

Microdermabrasion: this is another form of dermabrasion and involves the removal of only the upper most surface cells of the skin with the help of aluminum oxide crystals which are passed through a vacuum tube. While this procedure usually requires several several sittings, it does not cause any damage to the skin.

Chemical Peeling : chemical peeling involves the use of certain chemicals to remove the top layer of the skin. Once regenerated, the skin is not just free from scars but also smooth and soft.

Laser Therapy- In this process, a doctor makes lesions on your skin using miniscule beats of light. The energy of light eliminates the damaged cells and stimulates the expansion of new collagen. The collagen is stirred for at least 4 months. The new skin cells along with the newly generated collagen improve the appearance of your skin remarkably. You might need about one to three laser treatments for your acne scar removal.

Subcision- This method is particularly used for deep rolling scars. The skin tissue is separated from the scarred tissue. Due to the separation of skin tissue, blood collects in the affected area. As a consequence of blood clogging, the scar comes up to the level of the skin. This scar is then removed with techniques like dermabrasion and chemical peeling.

Punch Grafting- Another method to treat acne scars is called punch grafting. In this technique, tiny parts of skin are taken from other parts of your body to replace the acne-scarred skin. Your scar is removed surgically through an instrument. After removal, a hole is left in your skin. This hole is covered with your ordinary skin. The area takes about a week to heal. After healing, the skin becomes smooth.

There are plenty of other methods through which you can remove your acne scars including, cortisone shots and cryosurgery.
